Definition: Anxiolysis

Anxiolysis is the use of pharmacological agents (medicine) to reduce anxiety. In dentistry anxiety is reduced so that the patient can have a more positive experience in dental setting by lowering or eliminating the fear associated with the dental experience. Nitrous oxide is an example of an anxiety reducing agent.
